What is the “Site Options” section of my profile?

The site options section allows you to customize various settings on the site. You can choose thing such as how posts are sorted, the font size, the content editor (used to create and reply topics and blog entries), how forum posts (or topics) are viewed, your time zone, and how dates/times appear.

How do I change my email address?

To change your email address, first login to the site. Click the “Edit Profile” link in the upper right hand corner, and then choose the Email tab. Note that there are two email addresses here – the first one is a public email address – this is the email address that is shared with other members of the community (leave this blank if you do not want to share your email address). Towards the bottom is a private email address – this is the email address used by the system to send you email.

What are “Favorites” and “Friends”?

Just like creating a bookmark (or favorite) for websites, you can mark certain sections of the site as favorites (such blogs, discussion groups, topics, resources, and even other members of the community– otherwise known as “friends”). This makes it easy for you to find and return to content that you find interesting. Whenever you see the favorite “star” button, click it and select the appropriate option. This will add a new favorite to the “Favorites” section of your profile. Here, if desired, you can share your favorites with other members of the community, and you can even see which members of the community have identified you as a “friend”.

What is an “Avatar”?

An avatar is an online representation of you (i.e. a picture used to identify you to the community). The default avatar for all users is a small silhouette/shadow of a person. Your avatar appears next to all content that you contribute to the community. If you would like to change your avatar, you can upload any picture that you would like. Note that a picture does not necessarily have to be a picture of yourself – for example, it could be a picture of your favorite car, or actor, or travel destination.

What is the “About” section?

The about section allows you to provide additional information to members of the community. You can share things such as your name, location, occupation, interests, birthday, personal web address, blog address, and even recommended readings (i.e. RSS feeds). What is the “Signature and Bio” section of my profile?

The signature is automatically attached to all emails sent by you. If you would like to include additional text at the bottom of emails, enter it here. In the bio section, you can enter a small paragraph describing yourself. This paragraph appears below your “sign in” name when users view your profile.

How do I view what my profile looks like to other members of the community?

To view your profile as another member, click the “Edit Profile” link in the upper right hand corner of the site. Then, click the link on the right that says “View public profile”. Any information appears here is what other members will see.

How can I change my personal profile?

To change your personal profile, first login to the community. Click the “Edit Profile” link in the upper right hand corner of the site. Your personal profile settings will appear. You can then navigate through the tabs and enter any additional information you want to share with other members. Don’t forget to click the save button after making changes to your profile.

Each member of the community has a personal profile. The only information that is available to other members of the community is your “sign in” name. If you choose, you can share other information about yourself by adding to your personal profile. For example, you can enter information about yourself, your interests, choose an avatar (or picture) to be displayed next to your “sign in” name, and even identify favorite people and/or sections of the website and share that with others.
